Homecoming at CMU
by Bridget H.
CMU homecoming is one of my favorite weekends during the fall semester. As part of Kiltie Band, our marching band on campus, I am always at the homecoming football game playing the pre-game and halftime show. It’s always a lot of fun playing at home football games for pre-game and halftime, but our homecoming halftime show is extra special.
Our homecoming halftime show is the senior scatter show. So instead of just marching onto the field to our chosen song of the semester, we make different shapes and figures on the field pertaining to the songs that we are playing for that show. I remember this one senior show we did my freshman year where we played a song called “Green Onion” and we formed Shrek’s face on the field. We also played a piece called “Moo Juice” and we formed the letters for BUTTER on the field. It’s really quite a sight to behold. During halftime, you can see us Kilties yelling, running and spinning around on the field as we transition from song to song. It’s a great way to cheer on our football team.
Speaking of the football team, it’s also tons of fun to just watch the game. Our loyal Tartan fans come out to watch and support both the football team and us Kilties. Hearing everyone cheer on the team and participating in all the fun Kiltie cheers (and anti-cheers) is one of my favorite ways to show my Tartan pride during homecoming weekend.
The other thing I really love about homecoming here is just hanging out with my best friend, Autumn. There are so many fun things to do during homecoming weekend. We have a zipline that goes across the Cut and then there are tons of giveaways and events to showcase our Tartan pride.
There’s always a ton of events going on during Homecoming Weekend but these are definitely my favorite traditions and events to partake in.
